Our Story
Embody Yoga was founded by Joanna Brooks in Milwaukee in 2015. At the time, Joanna noticed that there were very few people of color practicing yoga. So she started Embody Yoga with a mission to share the practice yoga with people of color. Since it’s founding, Embody Yoga has served hundreds of people, the majority of whom identify as people of color. Embody Yoga offers classes that are accessible, affordable, culturally relevant and welcoming to all. Whether you are experiencing pain or simply want to improve your physical and mental wellbeing, Embody Yoga provides a healing and friendly environment in which to do so.
Classes
How to Take A Class:
1. Press the 'Book A Class' button below and select the class you want to take. Once you've selected a class, you will be prompted for payment.
2. If practicing in studio, arrive 10 minutes before the start of class. If practicing from home, check your email 30 minutes before class for a link to join
3. Enjoy your practice
Class Levels:
Level 1: For absolute beginners and those who have been practicing for 6 months or less
All Levels: Anyone can participate in these classes.
Mixed Level: For those with 6 months of practice or more.
Level 2: For those who have been practicing for 9 months or more.

Private Yoga Sessions
Embody Yoga offers private individual and group yoga sessions in our studio or in the comfort of your home. Private sessions for individuals are recommended for students who have specific needs that require individualized attention or for those who simply want to treat themselves. Private group sessions are recommended for groups celebrating a special occasion.


Yoga & Mindfulness for Schools
Embody Yoga offers yoga and mindfulness classes for youth in schools and youth servicing organizations. We teach kids poses, breathing techniques and meditation that encourage mindfulness and self-regulation. We pride ourselves on making yoga and mindfulness both fun and culturally relevant.
Corporate Yoga
Bring the Embody Yoga experience to your organization. Studies show that employees demonstrate greater productivity, less burnout and more focus following a yoga session. Bring Embody Yoga in to offer a lunchtime or end of the day yoga sessions for your staff.

Locating Our Studio
We are located in the Barnabas Building Complex. However, the entrance to our studio is in the back of the building and not visible from Port Washington Road. If you are headed north on Port Washington Road (heading towards Hampton Avenue), turn right at River Woods Parkway and then take the first left at Estabrook Lane. If you are headed south on Port Washington Road (headed towards Capitol Drive), make a left at River Woods Parkway and then take the first left at Estabrook Lane. Follow the road all the way to the back parking lot and enter through Door #7. Walk up the small flight of stairs and turn left. Follow signs for Embody Yoga.
